Asking the questions and going the extra mile
I have always asked my pediatric and teen patients about their sleep patterns, their "typical school day" and the types of "aches and pains alot of teens get". I am always amazed at how many kids and parents do say "I know this is not good but it really is how everyone feels and there is no other way". We physicians need to stop and insist that getting too little sleep, using overcaffeinated beverages, and having signs of depression and anxiety is NOT normal and make sure we treat this like an infectious disease epidemic!
